On 11th of October, we provided the session to the students who were interested to get started with the open source. We have already opened an online forms to fill up for the participants, which made us easier to assume the crowd.

We started with introduction of our two communities. Then we arranged certain time for our MLSA Sijan Neupane to share his experiences regarding open source. Finally, we started covering our topics the git, github and hacktoberfest.

Hacktoberfest is a month long annual event organized by DIGITALOCEAN's to where the contributors can get some free swags for creating minimum of 4 valid pull request on an OPEN SOURCE project. The main motive of the event is to promote the culture of open source and motivate the contributors. As the name suggest it is celebrated from October 1st to 31st. The main motive is to encourage the learners and tech enthusiasts to involve in open source. For getting the swags, you have to create a minimum of 4 valid pull request on any open source project.

As a student, we can view the hacktoberfest event as a new way of starting a career in the field of IT. The event not only provides a understanding of the open source contribution but also helps in networking and communication skills.
